The current Kia Optima generation has been a success for the company. From a faceless mid-sized sedan, Kia has done an excellent job in turning it into something that is also fashionable. It is all thanks to the measured and sweeping new design in addition to more rigid framework that is also slightly larger and lighter. For the new Kia Optima 2017, Kia promises improved quality too with enhanced characteristics on riding and handling, in addition to quieter cabin for totally enjoyable ride.
The big success for Optima sedan is not something we should ignore easily, considering the big and reputable brands competing in the same mid-sized sedan class. Remember we have Toyota’s best-selling Camry and Honda Accord. Chevy Malibu is also under the same vehicle class, and we have Hyundai Sonata as well. Aside from the improvements mentioned before, the company also promises there will be roomier interior room for the new Optima 2017, especially with slight increase in wheelbase, meaning the more headroom, shoulder room, and legroom especially for rear seat and roomier trunk space are awaiting.
More generous interior room is not the only one the company offers for the new 2017 Kia Optima. The general refinements also include the more features for entertainment, infotainment and safety and convenience. For example, Kia’s UVO system is available as standard with 4 new services: Speed Alert, Geo-fencing, Driving Score, and Curfew Alert. Driver can access contents from smartphone by using either Apple or Android Auto CarPlay. The display features an 8-inch screen to show many important features: music, navigation, messaging, they are all within the reach. Do not forget the improved safety features too: Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, and Advanced Smart Cruise Control. For better equipped vehicle, shoppers have more options offered through optional features.
Available in 5 trim levels (LX, LX Turbo, EX, SX Turbo, and SXL), each one of them features different engine options. In short, there are 3 engine options. The 178-hp 1.6L turbo 4-cylinder is available for LX, paired to 7-speed dual-clutch transmission working like an automatic transmission. The 185-hp 2.4L GDI 4-cylinder is used to run LX Turbo and EX. Lastly, there is the 247-hp 2.0L turbo engine for SX Turbo and SXL. Both of 2.4L GDI and 2.0L turbo are mated to 6-speed automatic transmission, with paddle shifters for SX Turbo and SXL.
So far, Kia has not made any official statement regarding the base price for its upcoming Optima sedan. However, we can anticipate and predict that the official base MSRP will range within $22,000 to $28,000 especially considering Optima is one of affordable sedan available on markets.
Even though the new and redesigned Kia Optima 2017 only shows a mild styling evolution, it is still an interesting choice if you are looking for a mid-size sedan that performs greatly with rich features for convenience and amenities. Kia Optima remains as notable choice for its no-more-than 30 grand price tag.
